Skate Seaway has earned the highest level, "Exceeded Standard", in Skate Ontario's CanSkate Excellence Recognition Program for it's delivery of
Skate Canada's CanSkate program.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
A CSA-approved hockey helmet, long pants, mittens, warm sweater or jacket. Helmet cage is recommended for this level. On-ice parent assistance is optional.

Pre-CanSkate
A 30-minute program designed for children ages 3-5 who have no or very little skating ability. Pre-CanSkate is the starting point where skaters advance to the CanSkate program. Basic skills such as skating forward, backwards, turning, jumping and stopping will be taught while promoting fun and continuous movement. A professional coach for each small group will be on the ice during the entire session. Age appropriate toys, other props and visual aids will be used during lessons. Circuits will be drawn on the ice for skaters to learn and practice their skills. Assessment is on an ongoing basis, allowing skaters to progress at their own pace. Skaters who master their Pre-CanSkate skills will advance to the CanSkate program.

On-ice parent assistance is optional. Should you wish to accompany your child on the ice, please email the club to be registered as a Skate Canada member.

A 50-minute learn-to-skate program that prepares skaters of all ages for recreational skating and virtually every ice sport. Skaters progress at their own pace through the use of teaching aids, upbeat music and a variety of activities that create a motivational learning environment. The six "stage" badges incorporate skills focusing on the ABC's of skating (Agility, Balance and Control).

The Fundamental Areas of CanSkate:
AGILITY - turning and jumping skills
BALANCE - forward skills, pushing technique and edges
CONTROL - backwards skills, stopping and speed elements
Each CanSkate session is 50 minutes in length and is divided into three main components:
• Warm-up
• Lesson time
• Group Activities/Cool down
CanSkate Awards & Incentives
Rising Star
A transitional program that moves skaters from CanSkate to StarSkate.
In addition to one CanSkate session per week, group lessons will focus on sport specific skills linked to the Skate Canada Star 1 Assessments.

Skaters will focus on edges, turns, stops, spins and jumps and will also be introduced to the fundamentals of movement to music and expression.
Program Requirements:

StarSkate offers opportunities for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in ice dance, skating skills, free skate, and artistic skating.
​
Each area is divided into the following levels:

STAR 5 Artistic
All STAR 1-5 levels are assessed by the skater's coach.

STAR 6-GOLD Skills

STAR 7, 9 & Gold Artistic
All STAR 6-GOLD & DIAMOND levels are assessed by a Skate Canada Official.

In addition to pursuing individual Assessments, skaters may also choose to enter StarSkate competitions. Other skaters may feel that they have progressed to a point where they may wish to enter the Skate Canada Podium Pathway program.
